Regular Season Round 18: Fujian S. - Xinjiang FT 131-125

There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Sturgeons (8-10) defeated higher ranked Xinjiang Flying Tige (11-7) in Jinjiang 131-125 on Tuesday. Sturgeons made 24-of-28 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. It was a good game for American point guard Russ Smith (183-91, college: Louisville) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 58 points (!!!), 10 assists and 4 steals. The other American import Mike Harris (198-83, college: Rice) contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Sturgeons' coach Bin Fan used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American-Bulgarian point guard Darius Adams (188-89, college: Indianapolis, agency: Dutt Sports Services) replied with 35 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 9 assists and the former international center Changdong Yu (206-91) added 19 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Xinjiang Flying Tige. Five Sturgeons and four Xinjiang Flying Tige players scored in double figures. Sturgeons moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Shanghai S. and Jiangsu TX MK. Defending champion Xinjiang Flying Tige dropped to the eighth position with seven games lost. Sturgeons will face bottom-ranked Bayi Rockets (#20) in Ningbo in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
