Regular Season Round 9: Pinheiros - Mogi 66-73

The biggest surprise of round 9 in NBB took place in Sao Paulo where guest Mogi (#1) beat lower ranked Pinheiros (#2) by 7 points 73-66 on Wednesday evening. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The best player for the winners was naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) who scored 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward Tyrone Curnell (203-88, college: Valdosta St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds. Four Mogi players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Desmond Holloway (191-90, college: Co.Carolina) who recorded 20 points and 5 rebounds and center Ralfi Ansaloni (211-87) added 5 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Pinheiros' coach Cesar Guidetti rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Mogi have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-1 record. Pinheiros at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. Mogi will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Pinheiros will play on the road against Liga Sorocaba in Sorocabana and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
