Regular Season Round 18: Toyama Grouses - Nagoya DD 96-64

There was a minor upset when second-best Diamond Dolphins (10-14) were rolled over on the road by fourth ranked Toyama Grouses (10-14) 96-64 on Wednesday. Toyama Grouses dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Diamond Dolphins' 36. Toyama Grouses forced 22 Diamond Dolphins turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Toyama Grouses especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Diamond Dolphins' players. American center Dexter Pittman (208-88, college: Texas, agency: Inception Sports) scored 20 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and international forward Naoki Uto (188-91) chipped in 14 points and 8 assists during the contest. Four Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American Craig Brackins (208-87, college: Iowa St.) with 12 points and guard Takaya Sasayama (178-93) scored 9 points and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Toyama Grouses moved-up to third place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Diamond Dolphins. Toyama Grouses will face Niigata Albirex (#4) on the road in the next round. Diamond Dolphins will play against the league's second-placed Chiba Jets and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
