Thirteenth-ranked Liga Sorocaba (2-9) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Pinheiros (9-2) in Sorocabana on Friday. The visitors from Sao Paulo managed to secure only two-point victory 77-75. However their fans expected much easier game. 29 personal fouls committed by Liga Sorocaba helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Cordero Bennett (188-88) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Arthur Bernardi (206-90, college: Houston Baptist) contributed with 10 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Five Pinheiros players scored in double figures. American guard Anton Cook (188-95, college: SE Oklahoma) replied with 20 points (made all of his seven free throws) and naturalized American guard Kevin Crescenzi (190-93, college: Dartmouth) added 13 points in the effort for Liga Sorocaba. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Pinheiros maintains second position with 9-2 record having just one point less than leader Mogi. Liga Sorocaba at the other side dropped to the fourteenth place with nine games lost. Pinheiros' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Sao Paulo Vivo/Franca.
