There was a minor upset in Kanagawa where 4th placed Osaka Evessa (7-19) was defeated by fourth ranked Toshiba Thunders (16-10) 89-73 on Friday. American power forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) fired a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. The former international swingman Naoto Tsuji (185-89) chipped in 15 points and 7 assists. American-Panamanian forward Gyno Pomare (203-86, college: San Diego) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists and Takuya Hashimoto (186-94) added 18 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Toshiba Thunders have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 16-10 record which they share with defeated Osaka Evessa. Loser Osaka Evessa keeps the fourth position with 19 games lost. Toshiba Thunders will face higher ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (#3) in Tokyo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Osaka Evessa will play at home against the league's second-placed Kyoto Hannar. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
