There was a minor upset in Santiado del Estero where higher ranked Quimsa (4-3) was crushed by tenth ranked La Union (4-3) 83-63 on Friday. La Union made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. La Union outrebounded Quimsa 47-32 including a 39-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was naturalized Spanish guard Jonathan Maldonado (188-90) who scored 30 points and 4 steals (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field). The former international swingman Alexis Elsener (196-88) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Elsener is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four La Union players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American-FYR Macedonian forward Jeremiah Massey (202-82, college: Kansas St., agency: Diamond Sports) who recorded 14 points and 7 rebounds and American-Jamaican center Torin Francis (210-83, college: Notre Dame) added 11 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Quimsa's coach Fabio Demti rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. La Union moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Quimsa. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
