There was a small surprise when tenth ranked NPC Rieti (6-7) defeated at home 7th ranked Cagliari Academy (7-6) 84-70 on Saturday. NPC Rieti made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. American-Nigerian Jamal Olasewere (201-91, college: LIU Brooklyn, agency: HMS) stepped up and scored 28 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and American-Nigerian guard Zaid Hearst (193-92, college: Quinnipiac) chipped in 19 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side American point guard Marcus Keene (180-95, college: Cent.Michigan) responded with 21 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import forward Deshawn Stephens (203-89, college: San Diego St., agency: HMS) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. NPC Rieti maintains tenth place in A2 with 6-7 record. Newly promoted Cagliari Academy dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. NPC Rieti will face Eurobasket Roma (#14) on the road in the next round.
