Regular Season Round 19: Toshiba BT - Osaka Evessa 79-71

There was a small surprise in Kanagawa where fourth ranked Toshiba Thunders (16-10) defeated 4th placed Osaka Evessa (7-19) 79-71 on Saturday. Toshiba Thunders dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Osaka Evessa's 32. Toshiba Thunders looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American power forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Senegalese swingman Mamadou Diouf (197-77, college: Delaware) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Four Toshiba Thunders players scored in double figures. American-Panamanian forward Gyno Pomare (203-86, college: San Diego) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds and the former international forward Naoya Kumagae (194-90) added 9 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Toshiba Thunders have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 16-10 record which they share with defeated Osaka Evessa. Loser Osaka Evessa keeps the fourth position with 19 games lost. Toshiba Thunders will face higher ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (#3) in Tokyo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Osaka Evessa will play at home against the league's second-placed Kyoto Hannar. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
