Very predictable result in Caceres where fifth ranked Gipuzkoa UPV (8-5) smashed 10th ranked Al-Qazeres (6-7) 64-45 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Gipuzkoa UPV. Al-Qazeres was better in fourth quarter 15-6. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gipuzkoa UPV held Al-Qazeres to an opponent 24.3 percent shooting from the field compared to 45.5 percent accuracy of the winners. Gipuzkoa UPV had a 34-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. Croatian point guard Iva Brkic (167-85, agency: ProDep Management) stepped up and scored 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and American forward Jillian Alleyne (190-94, college: Oregon) chipped in 11 points and 11 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Shayla Cooper (188-95, college: Ohio St.) responded with 12 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import guard Alexis Jones (175-94, college: Baylor) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. Al-Qazeres' coach Jacinto Carbajal tested eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Gipuzkoa UPV moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Mann Filter and Sant Adria. Loser Al-Qazeres dropped to the eighth position with seven games lost. Gipuzkoa UPV will face AE Sedis (#8) in Seu D'urgell in the next round. Al-Qazeres will play at home against Campus Promete and hope to win that game.
