Regular Season Round 19: Niigata Albirex - Toyama Grouses 76-86

Rather predictable result when third ranked Toyama Grouses (12-14) beat on the road 5th ranked Niigata Albirex (10-16) 86-76 on Saturday. Toyama Grouses looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific, agency: Pensack Sports) fired 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. International forward Naoki Uto (188-91) chipped in 13 points and 7 assists. Five Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. American Davante Gardner (203-91, college: Marquette) produced 27 points and 9 rebounds and the former international guard Kei Igarashi (180-80) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Niigata Albirex's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Toyama Grouses have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 12-14 record having eight points less than leader Ryukyu GK. Loser Niigata Albirex dropped to the fourth position with 16 games lost. Toyama Grouses will face Nishinomiya S. (#6) in Hyogo in the next round. Niigata Albirex will play at home against Tochigi Brex and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
