Regular Season Round 27: Fukushima - Akita NH 74-72

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Akita Happinets (22-4) on the court of second ranked Fukushima on Sunday night. Visitors were edged by Fukushima 74-72. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Akita Happinets. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Fukushima looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for American guard Deon Jones (198-93, college: Monmouth) who led his team to a victory with 13 points and 5 assists. Point guard Kenya Tomori (177-84) contributed with 11 points and 4 assists for the winners. Forward Ryosuke Shirahama (190-91) answered with 16 points and American center Nigel Spikes (208-89, college: Marshall) added 10 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Akita Happinets. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Akita Happinets' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Fukushima maintains second place with 16-9 record despite having the same number of points like the leader Akita NH. Akita Happinets at the other side still keep top position with four games lost. They share it with Fukuoka Rizing. Fukushima are looking forward to face Yamagata (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Akita Happinets will play against the league's second-placed Kanazawa Sam. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
