Regular Season Round 19: Niigata Albirex - Toyama Grouses 80-96

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Niigata Albirex (10-16) was defeated at home by third ranked Toyama Grouses (12-14) 96-80 on Sunday. Toyama Grouses looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Toyama Grouses made 7 blocks. International forward Naoki Uto (188-91) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 assists for the winners. American center Dexter Pittman (208-88, college: Texas, agency: Inception Sports) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). American Davante Gardner (203-91, college: Marquette) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds and the former international guard Kei Igarashi (180-80) added 13 points and 8 assists respectively for lost side. Five Toyama Grouses and four Niigata Albirex players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Toyama Grouses have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 12-14 record having eight points less than leader Ryukyu GK. Loser Niigata Albirex dropped to the fourth position with 16 games lost. Toyama Grouses will face Nishinomiya S. (#6) in Hyogo in the next round. Niigata Albirex will play at home against Tochigi Brex and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
