There was a small surprise when fifteenth ranked Virtus Roma (4-9) won against at home 13th ranked Eurobasket Roma (4-9) 88-79 on Sunday. Virtus Roma made 17-of-18 free shots (94.4 percent) during the game. American power forward Lee Roberts (201-87, college: Findlay, OH) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and his fellow American import guard Aaron Thomas (196-91, college: Florida St.) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. At the losing side American point guard Michael Deloach (184-86, college: Norfolk St.) responded with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Alessandro Piazza (175-87) scored 11 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Eurobasket Roma players scored in double figures. Virtus Roma moved-up to thirteenth place in A2. Virtus Roma will face higher ranked Mens Sana 1871 (#11) in Siena in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Eurobasket Roma will play at home against NPC Rieti and hope to win that game.
