There was no surprise when 14th ranked Eurobasket Roma (4-10) was defeated at home by tenth ranked NPC Rieti (7-7) 84-75 on Friday. NPC Rieti outrebounded Eurobasket Roma 34-23 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was guard Claudio Tommasini (197-91) who scored 22 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). American-Nigerian guard Zaid Hearst (193-92, college: Quinnipiac) chipped in 21 points. Four NPC Rieti players scored in double figures. American point guard Michael Deloach (184-86, college: Norfolk St.) produced 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and his fellow American import forward DeShawn Sims (203-88, college: Michigan) added 19 points respectively for the hosts. NPC Rieti moved-up to ninth place in A2. Loser Eurobasket Roma keeps the fourteenth position with ten games lost. NPC Rieti will face higher ranked Legnano (#6) in Castellanza in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Eurobasket Roma will play on the road against Agrigento (#7) and hope to win that game.
