Regular Season Round 15: Martorell - Aquimisa LZ 95-89

Bottom-ranked Martorell managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of eight consecutive losses on Friday night. This time newly promoted Martorell won against fifteenth-ranked Zamorano 95-89. The hosts trailed by 8 points after three quarters before their 39-25 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Martorell made 21-of-23 free shots (91.3 percent) during the game. Martorell outrebounded Zamorano 40-26 including 25 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for guard Xavi Guirao (190-87) who led the winners and scored 30 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). Egyptian power forward Ahmed Khalaf (206-99) accounted for 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winning side. Martorell's coach Adria Alonso used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Chris Hansen (193-93, college: Idaho St.) came up with 20 points and forward Adrian Mendez (195-93) added 21 points respectively for Zamorano in the defeat. Four Zamorano players scored in double figures. Martorell (2-13) moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with Aquimisa LZ. Martorell will meet at home league's leader CB Granada in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Zamorano will play against HLA Alicante (#5) and hope to secure a win.
