Regular Season Round 17: Al-Bahrain - Sitra 81-57
Date: December 29, 2017
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Manama where 9th ranked Sitra (4-11) was crushed by tenth ranked Al-Bahrain (5-11) 81-57 on Friday. Al-Bahrain outrebounded Sitra 50-26 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. American forward Merrill Holden (203-93, college: Iowa St., agency: SDJ Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 18 rebounds for the winners and Khalid Ali chipped in 12 points. Mohamed Abdulameer responded with 8 points and 6 assists and Qatari center Mohammad Abdullah (205-82) scored 10 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Al-Bahrain moved-up to ninth place. Sitra lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth position with 11 games lost. Al-Bahrain will face higher ranked Al-Hala (#5) in Muharraq in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sitra will play on the road against Al-Nweidrat (#4) in Nuwaidrat and hope to win that game.
