Regular Season Round 21: BC Nokia - KTP Basket 66-77

Date: December 30, 2017
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 8th ranked BC Nokia (8-11) was defeated at home by ninth ranked KTP-Basket (8-12) 77-66 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by KTP-Basket. BC Nokia was better in third quarter 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. KTP-Basket dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to BC Nokia's 34. They outrebounded BC Nokia 45-29 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. American players dominated the game. Guard Mandell Thomas (188-93, college: Fordham) stepped up and scored 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and center Kenneth Simms (206-86, college: Cumberland, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds. KTP-Basket's coach Ray Ailus used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Leyton Hammonds (203-94, college: Oklahoma St., agency: Inception Sports) with 13 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Vincent Council (186-90, college: Providence) scored 12 points and 4 assists. KTP-Basket maintains ninth place with 8-12 record. Loser BC Nokia keeps the eighth position with 11 games lost. KTP-Basket will face higher ranked Kauhajoki (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
