Regular Season Round 14: Al-Qazeres - Campus Promete 92-67
Date: December 30, 2017
There was no surprise in Caceres where 13th ranked Campus Promete (2-12) was crushed by ninth ranked Al-Qazeres (7-7) 92-67. The game was mostly controlled by Al-Qazeres. Campus Promete was better in second period 21-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Al-Qazeres forced 21 Campus Promete turnovers. They shot the lights out from three nailing 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. Al-Qazeres players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. American forward Shayla Cooper (188-95, college: Ohio St.) notched 17 points and 7 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import forward Joy Brown (180-93, college: Iona) supported her with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Five Al-Qazeres players scored in double figures. Al-Qazeres' coach Jacinto Carbajal felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds by Jamaican power forward Vanessa Gidden (192-85, college: Hofstra, agency: ProDep Management) did not help to save the game for Campus Promete. Portuguese center Carolina Silva (187-90) added 8 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Al-Qazeres moved-up to eighth place, which they share with AE Sedis and Araski. Campus Promete lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with 12 games lost. Al-Qazeres' next round opponent will be league's leader Perfumerias Avenida in Salamanca and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Campus Promete will play at home against AE Sedis (#8) and hope to win that game.
