Very important is a road loss of third ranked Helsinki Seagulls (12-7) against fifth ranked Joensuun Kataja (10-7) on Saturday night. Visiting Helsinki Seagulls was defeated by Joensuun Kataja in Joensuu 105-90. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Helsinki Seagulls. It looked good early as Helsinki Seagulls took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Joensuun Kataja had a 30-17 second period charge getting the lead and Helsinki Seagulls was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 90-105. Joensuun Kataja shot 63.1 percent from the field. They outrebounded Helsinki Seagulls 38-24 including a 32-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Joensuun Kataja players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Helsinki Seagulls' players. American point guard Damier Pitts (177-89, college: Marshall, agency: Inception Sports) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points, 5 rebounds and 17 assists for the winning side and international guard Ilari Seppala (188-93) accounted for 16 points and 7 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Pitts is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Joensuun Kataja's coach Greg Gibson allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American guard Remy Abell (195-92, college: Xavier, agency: Inception Sports) came up with 25 points and 4 assists and the other American import point guard Derek Jackson (185-91, college: Kent St., agency: Mansfield and Associates) added 17 points and 4 assists respectively for Helsinki Seagulls in the defeat. Five Joensuun Kataja and four Helsinki Seagulls players scored in double figures. Joensuun Kataja have a solid series of four victories in a row. Despite that victory Joensuun Kataja went down to sixth position due to points difference. Helsinki Seagulls at the other side keeps the third place with seven games lost. Joensuun Kataja will play against Lapuan Korikobrat (#10) on the road in the next round. Helsinki Seagulls will play against the league's leader Salon Vilpas (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
