Date: January 1, 2018
Very expected game when 5th ranked Shimane Magic (7-21) lost to first ranked Ryukyu GK (21-7) in Okinawa 71-85 on Monday. It was a great shooting night for Ryukyu GK especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Ryukyu GK made 8 blocks. American forward Hassan Martin (201-95, college: Rhode Island) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points and 9 rebounds. International forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) contributed with 14 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Ryukyu GK players scored in double figures. American forward Josh Scott (208-93, college: Colorado, agency: Pensack Sports) replied with 25 points and 8 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and his fellow American import Tyler Stone (203-91, college: SE Missouri St., agency: Diamond Sports) added 18 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Shimane Magic. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Ryukyu GK maintains first position with 21-7 record. Newly promoted Shimane Magic keeps the fifth place with 21 games lost. Ryukyu GK will face Osaka Evessa (#4) on the road in the next round. Shimane Magic will play against Toyama Grouses and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
