Regular Season Round 12: Al Ahli - Al Gharafa 85-114

Date: January 2, 2018
Another interesting game was again a derby between two local teams from Doha: Al Gharafa (#1) and Al Ahli (#8). Al Ahli was smashed at home by 29 points 85-114 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Al Gharafa made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists. The winners were led by international forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry) who scored that evening 26 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals and American point guard James Justice (178-89, college: Martin Methodist) supported him with 15 points, 11 assists and 4 steals. Monroe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even 36 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists by Serbian-FYR Macedonian forward Nenad Zivcevic (203-87, agency: Mansfield and Associates) did not help to save the game for Al Ahli. Ndoye Seydou-Elhadj added 14 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Five Al Gharafa and four Al Ahli players scored in double figures. Al Ahli's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Al Gharafa have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 9-1 record. Al Ahli lost ninth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with nine games lost. Al Gharafa's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Rayyan.
