We should mention about the upset which took place in Jinjiang, where 4th placed Golden Stars (16-7) lost to fifteenth ranked Sturgeons (9-14) in a road game 104-115 on Tuesday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Golden Stars. Sturgeons shot the lights out from three sinking 24 long-distance shots on high 51.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sturgeons made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American point guard Russ Smith (183-91, college: Louisville) who had a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 13 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). His fellow American import Mike Harris (198-83, college: Rice) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds. Lithuanian power forward Donatas Motiejunas (213-90) produced a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds and American point guard Ty Lawson (180-87, college: N.Carolina) added 27 points and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Five Sturgeons and four Golden Stars players scored in double figures. Sturgeons moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Shanxi BD. Loser Golden Stars dropped to the fifth position with seven games lost. Sturgeons will face Eagles (#16) in Qingdao in the next round. Golden Stars will play on the road against Golden Bulls (#7) in Hangzhou and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
