Regular Season Round 18: Al-Hala - Al-Bahrain 94-82
Date: January 3, 2018
There was no surprise in Muharraq where 9th ranked Al-Bahrain (5-12) was defeated by fifth ranked Al-Hala (12-5) 94-82. Al-Hala players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. American-Lebanese center Loren Woods (218-78, college: Arizona) notched a double-double by scoring 26 points, 17 rebounds and 8 blocks (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and Jordanian Ahmed Jamal (-87) supported him with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Five Al-Hala players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 29 points, 22 rebounds and 4 blocks by American forward Merrill Holden (203-93, college: Iowa St., agency: SDJ Sports) did not help to save the game for Al-Bahrain. Jalal Akbar added 30 points. Al-Bahrain's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Al-Hala have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Al-Nweidrat. Al-Bahrain at the other side keeps the ninth position with 12 games lost. Al-Hala will have a break next round. Al-Bahrain's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Manama Samaheej.
