Regular Season Round 14: Stelmet - Anwil 94-83

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Anwil (12-3) against fourth ranked Stelmet (11-4) on Wednesday night. Visiting Anwil was defeated by Stelmet in Zielona Gora 94-83. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Anwil. It looked good early as Anwil took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Stelmet had a 31-21 second period charge getting the lead and Anwil was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 83-94. Stelmet players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. Montenegrin power forward Vladimir Dragicevic (206-86) notched a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) to lead the effort and Lithuanian guard Martynas Gecevicius (193-88, agency: BeoBasket) supported him with 16 points and 5 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Stelmet's coach Andrej Urlep allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 14 points and 4 assists by Cape Verdean-Portuguese Ivan Almeida (198-89, college: Stonehill) did not help to save the game for Anwil. Michal Nowakowski (202-88) added 14 points for the guests. Five Stelmet and four Anwil players scored in double figures. Stelmet have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Polski Cukier. Anwil at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. They share it with MKS DG. Stelmet will play against Twarde Pierniki (#3) in Torun in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Anwil will play on the road against Polpharma in Starogard Gdanski and hopes to get back on the winning track.
