Regular Season Round 12: Valur - Keflavik 84-87

A very interesting game took place in Reykjavik. It ended with only three-point home defeat of 10th ranked Valur (4-8) to sixth ranked Keflavik (7-5) 87-84 on Thursday evening. Valur was ahead by 3 points after three quarters before a 26-20 charge of Keflavik, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Valur outrebounded Keflavik 41-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Hordur Vilhjalmsson (194-88) who scored 23 points and 8 assists. American power forward Dominique Elliott (203-91, college: Md-E Shore, agency: David Lee Services) chipped in 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Urald King (198-90, college: SE Oklahoma) who recorded a double-double by scoring 26 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks and Gunnar Hardarson (185-96, college: Belm.Abbey) added 23 points respectively. Valur's coach Agust Bjorgvinsson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Keflavik moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Grindavik and Njardvik. Valur lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the ninth position with eight games lost. Keflavik's next round opponent will be Thor AK (#11) in Akureyri where they are favorite. Valur will play on the road against Tindastoll in Sauoarkrokur and hope to win that game.
