Regular Season Round 11: Hapoel J-M - Maccabi Haifa 84-79
Date: January 4, 2018
There was no surprise when 8th ranked Maccabi Haifa (4-7) was defeated on the road by third ranked Hapoel Jerusalem (8-3) 84-79 on Thursday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 5 points after three quarters before their 23-13 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Hapoel Jerusalem made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for Dominican-American forward Ronald Roberts (203-91, college: St.Joseph's, agency: Pensack Sports) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. The former international forward Lior Eliyahu (205-85) helped adding 16 points and 7 rebounds. International Oz Blayzer (199-92) responded with 16 points and 8 rebounds and naturalized American Willy Workman (198-90, college: Amherst) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Four Hapoel Jerusalem and five Maccabi Haifa players scored in double figures. Maccabi Haifa's coach Offer Rahimi let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Hapoel Holon. Loser Maccabi Haifa dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. They share it with Maccabi Ashdod. Hapoel Jerusalem will meet at home Ironi Nahariya (#6) in the next round. Maccabi Haifa will play against Maccabi Rishon in Rishon Le-Zion and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
