Regular Season Round 12: Thor AK - Haukar 74-96

Very expected game when 11th ranked Thor AK (2-10) was smashed by third ranked Haukar (9-3) in Akureyri 96-74. The game was mostly controlled by Haukar. Thor AK was better in fourth quarter 23-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Haukar players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. The best player for the winners was guard Haukur Oskarsson (194-91) who scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. International guard Kari Jonsson (190-97, college: Drexel) chipped in 14 points and 8 assists. Four Haukar players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Nino Johnson (206-93, college: SE Missouri St.) who recorded 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and forward Palmi Jonsson (196-93) added 17 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Haukar have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with KR and IR. Thor AK lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with ten games lost. Haukar's next round opponent will be Grindavik (#7) at home where they are favorite. Thor AK will play against Keflavik (#6) and hope to win that game.
