Regular Season Round 22: Helsinki Seagulls - Salon Vilpas 72-83

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Helsinki. First ranked Salon Vilpas faced 3rd ranked Helsinki Seagulls. Guests from Salo (18-4) defeated host Helsinki Seagulls (12-8) 83-72. The game was mostly controlled by Salon Vilpas. Helsinki Seagulls was better in third quarter 23-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Salon Vilpas won last quarter 20-11. They made 19-of-24 charity shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Helsinki Seagulls was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Tobin Carberry (193-91, college: LIU Post, agency: HMS) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. The other American import point guard Johnathan Jordan (178-92, college: Texas A&M-CC, agency: Slash Sports) contributed with 19 points and 6 assists for the winners. Carberry is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Salon Vilpas players scored in double figures. Salon Vilpas' coach Joonas Iisalo allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. International Tuukka Kotti (205-81, college: Providence) replied with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds and American forward Kayel Locke (196-94, college: NC-Greensboro) added 12 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Helsinki Seagulls. Salon Vilpas have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 18-4 record. Helsinki Seagulls at the other side keeps the third place with eight games lost. They share the position with Pyrinto. Salon Vilpas will play against league's second-placed Kouvot in Kouvola in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Helsinki Seagulls will play on the road against Lapuan Korikobrat and hopes to get back on the winning track.
