Regular Season Round 15: Valur - Breidablik 85-52

Leader Valur delivered the twelfth victory. This time they crushed 5th ranked Breidablik (8-7) 85-52 in Reykjavik. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Breidablik. The game without a history. Valur led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Breidablik to just 7 points in first quarter. Valur well out of reach of Breidablik shooting 77.8 percent from the field and made 109-of-109 charity shots (100 percent !!!) during the game, while Breidablik only scored 73 points from the stripe. Valur forced 36 Breidablik turnovers and outrebounded them 145-92 including a 52-35 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 53 long-distance shots on high 80.3 percentage. Valur players were unselfish on offense dishing 42 assists comparing to just 23 passes made by Breidablik's players. They brought some defensive toughness making 18 blocks. Breidablik was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for international guard Gudbjorg Sverrisdottir (180-92) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. American swingman Aaliyah Whiteside (183-94, college: Georgia Tech) contributed with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Whiteside is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Valur players scored in double figures. American guard Ivory Crawford (178-92, college: Illinois) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and center Sollilja Bjarnadottir (171-95) added 12 points in the effort for Breidablik. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Valur (12-3) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place. Newly promoted Breidablik dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. They share it with Stjarnan. Valur will play against Keflavik (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Breidablik will play against Stjarnan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
