Regular Season Round 15: Njardvik - Skallagrimur 61-76

Bottom-ranked Njardvik (0-15) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 76-61 loss to sixth ranked Skallagrimur (7-8) in Njardvik on Saturday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Skallagrimur. Njardvik managed to win third quarter 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Skallagrimur dominated down low during the game scoring 142 of its points in the paint compared to Njardvik's 94 and made 89-of-93 free shots (95.7 percent) during the game. Skallagrimur forced 30 Njardvik turnovers and outrebounded them 136-98 including a 53-39 advantage in offensive rebounds. Skallagrimur shot the lights out from three sinking 27 long-distance shots on high 60.0 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 37 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Skallagrimur made 8 blocks. It was a great evening for American swingman Carmen Tyson-Thomas (180-91, college: Syracuse, agency: Two Points) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Chilean Ziomora Morrison (-94) helped adding 18 points and 11 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American Shalonda Winton (180-91, college: Cleveland St.) with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds and point guard Bjork Gunnarsdotir (165-98) scored 6 points and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Skallagrimur maintains sixth place with 7-8 record. Njardvik lost their fifteenth game in a row. They still close the standings with 15 games lost. Skallagrimur will meet at home Snaefell (#7) in the next round. Njardvik will play against the league's second-placed Haukar in Hafnarfjordur and hopes to get finally their first victory.
