Regular Season Round 13: Barca CBS - Rioja 84-73

Very expected game when 10th ranked Rioja (5-8) lost to second ranked Barca CBS (10-3) in Barcelona 73-84 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Barca CBS. Rioja was better in third quarter 25-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Barca CBS won last quarter 25-16. They made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. It was a very good performance for point guard Lucia Pablos (172-85, college: Northeastern) who helped to win the game recording 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). American swingman Bre McDonald (183-93, college: E.Carolina) contributed with 13 points and 4 assists for the winners. American center Erika Livermore (185-93, college: Fair Dickinson) answered with 24 points and the other American import guard Brenae Harris (178-92, college: Toledo) added 18 points in the effort for Rioja. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Barca CBS. Newly promoted Barca CBS maintains second place in Group A with 10-3 record having just three points less than leader Gran Canaria. Rioja at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the tenth position with eight games lost. Barca CBS's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Barcelona Lima-Horta.
