Regular Season Round 14: Weert - Groningen 67-93
Date: January 6, 2018
The game in Weert supposed to be also quite interesting. Second ranked Groningen (11-2) played at the court of 8th ranked Weert (3-10). Groningen smashed Weert 93-67 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 93-67. Groningen forced 19 Weert turnovers and outrebounded them 40-29 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Weert's players. American guard Brandyn Curry (187-91, college: Harvard, agency: Inception Sports) notched 21 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and international guard Arvin Slagter (191-85, agency: Court Side) supported him with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Groningen players scored in double figures. Even 13 points by swingman Daan Rosenmuller (193-95) did not help to save the game for Weert. Jacco Fritz (202-0) added 10 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Groningen have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Loser Weert keeps the eighth place with ten games lost. Groningen will meet at home bottom-ranked Den Helder (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Weert will have a break next round.
