Regular Season Round 15: Zamarat - Gernika 77-88

Everything went according to plan when fifth ranked Gernika (9-6) defeated 12th ranked Zamarat (2-13) in Zamora 88-77. The game was mostly controlled by Gernika. Zamarat was better in second period 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gernika shot 61.7 percent from the field. Gernika outrebounded Zamarat 39-22 including a 29-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American center Talia Caldwell (188-91, college: California) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 18 rebounds. The former international power forward Maria Pina (187-87) helped adding 20 points and 6 rebounds. Five Gernika players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Alisia Jenkins (186-94, college: S.Florida) with 15 points and 8 rebounds and Argentinian center Gisela Vega (188-82, agency: ProDep Management) scored 16 points. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Gernika. They maintain fifth place with 9-6 record, which they share with Gipuzkoa UPV. Zamarat lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the twelfth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Campus Promete. Gernika will play against higher ranked Mann Filter (#4) in Zaragoza in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Zamarat will play at home against Gipuzkoa UPV (#6) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
