Regular Season Round 15: Baskonia - Valencia 78-74

The game between third ranked Valencia Basket (10-5) and seventh ranked Baskonia (9-6) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. Valencia Basket was defeated by Baskonia in a tough game in Vitoria 74-78. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 22-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Baskonia dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Valencia Basket's 24. The best player for the winners was Uruguayan-Italian guard Jayson Granger (189-89) who scored 20 points and 4 assists. French power forward Vincent Poirier (210-93) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). Granger is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Baskonia's coach Pedro Martinez used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was Belgian point guard Sam Van-Rossom (188-86) who recorded 13 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and German center Tibor Pleiss (217-89) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Baskonia moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Gran Canaria. Defending champion Valencia Basket dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Baskonia is looking forward to face CB Canarias (#7) in Tenerife in the next round. Valencia Basket will play at home against Zaragoza and is hoping to win this game.
