Date: January 7, 2018
A1 top team - Olympiacos (10-0) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed ninth ranked Proteas (3-7) in Voula 79-50. The game without a history. Olympiacos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Olympiacos shot 25 for 35 from the free-throw line, while Proteas only scored eight points from the stripe. Olympiacos forced 21 Proteas turnovers and outrebounded them 40-28 including 27 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Olympiacos made 7 blocks. The former international swingman Olga Chatzinikolaou (181-81) notched 9 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the effort and the former international forward Anna Spyridopoulou (184-88) supported her with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. Four Olympiacos players scored in double figures. Even 13 points and 4 assists by American swingman Alexis Govan (178-93, college: W.Kentucky) did not help to save the game for Proteas. Her fellow American import Labrittney Jones (185-95, college: Arizona) added 12 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Olympiacos have an impressive ten-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 10-0 record. Loser Proteas keeps the ninth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Panathlitikos. Olympiacos will meet at home Panathlitikos (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Proteas will play against Olympiacos Volou and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
