Regular Season Round 13: Adelantados - Gran Canaria 74-87

An interesting game for Gran Canaria (13-0) which played road game in San Cristobal against 4th placed Adelantados (9-4). Leader Gran Canaria managed to get a 13-point victory 87-74. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Adelantados. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 87-74. Gran Canaria shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 56.0 percentage. Forward Maria Royo (178-86) nailed 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and American point guard Starr Breedlove (168-93, college: UTEP) accounted for 18 points and 7 rebounds (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. American forward Caira Washington (188-95, college: G.Washington) came up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) and center Lucia Mendez (182-88) added 18 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Adelantados in the defeat. The victory was the thirteenth consecutive win for Gran Canaria. They maintain first place in Group B with 13-0 record. Loser Adelantados dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with Alcobendas. Gran Canaria will meet Alcobendas (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Adelantados will play against Valencia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
