Regular Season Round 11: PAOK - Olympiacos 78-71

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Olympiacos (8-3) against fifth ranked PAOK (7-4) on Sunday night. Visiting Olympiacos was defeated by PAOK in a tough game in Thessaloniki 71-78. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Olympiacos. The hosts were already 11 points ahead at halftime and as many as 16 after three quarters before a 30-21 last quarter charge of Olympiacos cut the lead to 78-71 at the end of the game. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Phil Goss (188-83, college: Drexel) who led the winners and scored 24 points. The former international Vasileios Charalampopoulos (205-97) accounted for 9 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. The former international Vassilis Spanoulis (193-82, agency: BeoBasket) came up with 12 points and 6 assists and international forward Kostas Papanikolaou (205-90) added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Olympiacos in the defeat. Four Olympiacos players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. PAOK moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Promitheas. Olympiacos at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. They share it with Lavrio. PAOK will play against bottom-ranked Panionios (#14) in Athens in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Olympiacos will play at home against G.Larissa-Faros (#10) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
