Regular Season Round 13: Al Arabi - Qatar Club 80-78

The most exciting game of round 13 in the D1 took place in Doha. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 4th placed Qatar Sports Club (7-5) to second ranked Al Arabi (10-2) 80-78 on Sunday evening. Al Arabi dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Qatar Sports Club's 30. They outrebounded Qatar Sports Club 52-36 including 18 on the offensive glass. Al Arabi looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. Swingman William Byrd (201-85, college: Ark.-Pine Bluff) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and forward Nick Stover (198-93, college: S.Alabama) chipped in 21 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. At the losing side guard Brandan Kearney (198-92, college: Detroit Mercy) responded with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Nick West (208-94, college: Alabama A&M) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Al Arabi have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 10-2 record having just one point less than leader Al Gharafa. Qatar Sports Club lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with five games lost. Al Arabi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Shamal.
