Regular Season Round 12: Maccabi Rishon - Maccabi Haifa 87-73
Date: January 7, 2018
Rather expected game when 10th ranked Maccabi Haifa (4-8) lost to seventh ranked Maccabi Rishon (6-6) in Rishon Le-Zion 73-87 on Sunday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Maccabi Rishon's pressure prevailed and they won that period 30-23 extending their advantage to 14 points. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Maccabi Rishon especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Maccabi Rishon made 7 blocks. The winners were led by American guard Drew Crawford (196-90, college: Northwestern) who scored that evening 19 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import Mark Tollefsen (206-92, college: Arizona) supported him with 17 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Maccabi Rishon's coach Shmuel Brenner used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds by naturalized American Willy Workman (198-90, college: Amherst) did not help to save the game for Maccabi Haifa. American guard Zach Graham (198-89, college: Mississippi, agency: Pro Sports) added 18 points. Five Maccabi Haifa players scored in double figures. Maccabi Rishon moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Hapoel T-A. Maccabi Haifa lost third consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with eight games lost. Maccabi Rishon will meet at home league's second-placed Hapoel Jerusalem in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Maccabi Haifa will play against Maccabi Ashdod (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
