Regular Season Round 18: Palencia - Melilla 69-72

Important game to mention about took place in Palencia. Fifth ranked Melilla Baloncesto (12-6) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 10th ranked Palencia Baloncesto (8-10) 72-69 on Friday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-8. But Palencia Baloncesto won second period 20-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Melilla Baloncesto had a 28-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for center Fran Guerra (214-92) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). Naturalized Senegalese power forward Mamadou Samb (210-89) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Serbian Nikola Cvetinovic (203-88, college: Akron) replied with 23 points and 5 rebounds and American center Dartaye Ruffin (205-91, college: Drexel, agency: Dynamics Global Management) added 12 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Palencia Baloncesto. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Melilla Baloncesto moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Oviedo. Loser Palencia Baloncesto dropped to the eleventh position with ten games lost. Melilla Baloncesto will face higher ranked La ICL Manresa (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Palencia Baloncesto will play against Castello (#7) and hope to win that game.
