Regular Season Round 13: Aix-Maurienne - Lille 78-76

The most exciting game of round 13 in the ProB took place in Aix-les-Bains. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of much higher ranked Lille Metropole (10-3) to fifteenth ranked Aix-Maurienne (4-9) 78-76 on Friday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Lille Metropole. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Aix-Maurienne dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Lille Metropole's 24. Aix-Maurienne forced 24 Lille Metropole turnovers. American-British point guard Akeem Williams (178-91, college: Mass.-Lowell) fired 22 points and 6 assists for the winners. American power forward Curtis Kelly (208-88, college: Kansas St., agency: HMS) chipped in 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Spanish guard Marcos Suka-Umu (192-85) produced 24 points and American point guard Maurice Acker (176-87, college: Marquette) added 14 points and 7 assists respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Aix-Maurienne moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Evreux and Poitiers. Lille Metropole at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Aix-Maurienne is looking forward to face higher ranked JA Vichy (#12) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lille Metropole will play against ALM Evreux (#13) and is hoping to win this game.
