Regular Season Round 19: Marin - Gijon 84-70

The game between closely ranked teams ended with leader Marin's (16-0) home victory over their biggest opponent Gijon (12-4) 84-70 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Marin. Gijon was better in third quarter 14-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for American forward Desmond Simmons (198-92, college: St.Mary's, CA) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. At the losing side American swingman James Pegues (198-93, college: Newman) responded with 23 points and 9 rebounds and guard Alejandro Rubiera (190-98) scored 18 points. Marin have an impressive series of sixteen victories in a row. They maintain first place in Group A-B with 16-0 record. Loser Gijon keeps the second position with four games lost. Marin will face bottom-ranked Betanzos (#10) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gijon will play against Leon (#8) and hope to win that game.
