Very important is a road loss of second ranked New Zealand Breakers (12-7) against sixth ranked Illawarra Hawks (9-10) on Saturday night. Visiting New Zealand Breakers were defeated by Illawarra Hawks in Gwynneville 90-79. Illawarra Hawks made 18-of-23 charity shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 New Zealand Breakers turnovers. The best player for the winners was international power forward Nick Kay (206-92, college: Metro St.) who scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. American forward Demitrius Conger (196-90, college: St.Bonaventure) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. American guard DJ Newbill (193-92, college: Penn St.) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Dominican-American point guard Edgar Sosa (190-88, college: Louisville) added 20 points respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Illawarra Hawks moved-up to fifth place. New Zealand Breakers at the other side dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. Illawarra Hawks' next round opponent will be higher ranked Adelaide 36ers (#3) in Findon and it may be quite challenging game. New Zealand Breakers will play on the road against Cairns Taipans and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
