Regular Season Round 11: NUIG Mystics - Liffey Celtics 57-77

Bottom-ranked NUIG Mystics (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 77-57 loss to second ranked Liffey Celtics (8-2) in Galway. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Liffey Celtics outrebounded NUIG Mystics 40-27 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Liffey Celtics especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 64.3 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists comparing to just 3 passes made by NUIG Mystics' players. American forward Devon Brookshire (188-94, college: St.Mary's, CA) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points and 4 assists. Ailbhe OConnor contributed with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. Four Liffey Celtics players scored in double figures. Point guard Aine McDonagh (181-98) answered with 12 points and 8 rebounds and American forward Deja Bullock (183, college: La Salle) added 16 points in the effort for NUIG Mystics. Defending champion maintains second place with 8-2 record having just one point less than leader DCU Mercy. NUIG Mystics at the other side still closes the standings with nine games lost. Liffey Celtics will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. NUIG Mystics will play at home against Brunell (#4) and hope to get finally their first victory.
