Regular Season Round 16: Chalon - ASVEL 84-52
Date: January 13, 2018
Bottom-ranked Chalon/Saor managed to get a fourth victory, breaking the three-game losing streak. This time defending champion outleveled eighth-ranked ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket 84-52. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 32-point difference suggests that Chalon/Saor is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. The game was mostly controlled by Chalon/Saor. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket was better in fourth quarter 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket 43-18 including a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Mickael Gelabale (202-83, agency: BeoBasket) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 8 rebounds and Belgian forward Pierre-Antoine Gillet (201-91) who added 14 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Five Chalon/Saor players scored in double figures. At the losing side international Amine Noua (202-97, agency: BeoBasket) responded with 15 points and American swingman David Lighty (195-88, college: Ohio St.) scored 10 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains eighteenth position with 4-12 record. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket at the other side dropped to the seventh place with eight games lost. They share the position with Cholet and Gravelines. Chalon/Saor will play against higher ranked Le Portel (#10) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket will play against Hyeres-Toulon and hopes to get back on the winning track.
