Regular Season Round 16: FC Barcelona - Unicaja 73-76

The most exciting game of round 16 in the Liga Endesa took place in Barcelona. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of much higher ranked FC Barcelona (11-5) to eighth ranked Unicaja Malaga (9-7) 76-73 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of FC Barcelona. FC Barcelona trailed by 19 points at halftime and as many as 21 after three quarters before a 31-13 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 73-76 at the end of the game. Unicaja Malaga dominated on the defensive end, holding FC Barcelona to just 7 points in first quarter. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Carlos Suarez (203-86, agency: Court Side) who helped to win the game recording 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Georgian center Giorgi Shermadini (217-89) contributed with 11 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. International power forward Pierre Oriola (206-92) replied with 17 points and 6 rebounds and Hungarian Adam Hanga (199-89, agency: Octagon Europe) added 8 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for FC Barcelona. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Unicaja Malaga have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. FC Barcelona at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. They share it with Valencia and Fuenlabrada. Unicaja Malaga is looking forward to face Gran Canaria (#6) in Las Palmas in the next round. FC Barcelona will play on the road against Andorra (#10) and is hoping to win this game.
