Regular Season Round 19: Benidorm - Gandia 95-92

There was a change at the EBA leadership position after last games. Round 19 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Gandia (10-2). They were edged by fourth ranked Benidorm (8-4) 95-92 on Sunday night. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Gandia. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Benidorm shot 63.2 percent from the field. It was a great shooting night for Benidorm especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 62.5 percentage. It was a great evening for point guard Alvaro Martin (181-92) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists. American forward Darren Payen (203, college: Vermont) helped adding 14 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Benidorm players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Faith Pope (201-95, college: Texas Arlington) responded with 28 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import forward Matthew Temple (208, college: Texas Tech) scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. Benidorm maintains fourth place in Group E with 8-4 record. Gandia at the other side dropped to the second position with two games lost. They share it with Valencia II. They were replaced at the leadership position by Algeciras. Gandia will play next round against Cartagena trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Benidorm will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Lliria on the road.
