Regular Season Round 15: HyPo - Helmi Basket 87-90

A very interesting game took place in Hyvinkaa. It ended with only three-point home defeat of higher ranked HyPo (8-7) to ninth ranked Helmi Basket (3-12) 90-87 on Sunday evening. HyPo was ahead by 11 points at the halftime before a 30-13 third quarter run of Helmi Basket. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. 27 personal fouls committed by HyPo helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for international guard Sara Bejedi (166-0) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. International center Awak Kuier (194-1) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Helmi Basket's coach Pekka Salminen used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Candice Warthen (165-92, college: Arizona) answered with 31 points and 6 rebounds and the former international swingman Henna Salomaa (177-89, college: Oakland) added 17 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for HyPo. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Helmi Basket maintains ninth place with 3-12 record. HyPo lost their fourth game in a row. Defending champion keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Helmi Basket's next round opponent will be higher ranked Peli-Karhut (#3) in Kotka and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. HyPo will play on the road against Aanekosken in Aanekoski and hope to win that game.
