Regular Season Round 19: Coruna II - Leon 93-75

There was an upset when higher ranked Leon (8-8) was defeated on the road by sixteenth ranked Coruna II (4-12) 93-75 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 10-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 93-75. Coruna II shot 34 for 46 from the free-throw line, while Leon only scored fourteen points from the stripe. Leon was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for guard Pablo Ferreiro (187-98) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. Forward Ruben Rey (198-93) helped adding 22 points and 11 rebounds. At the losing side Marcos Garcia (-97) responded with 18 points and forward Pablo Ruiz (-97) scored 5 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Coruna II moved-up to fifteenth place in Group A-B, which they share with Venta de Banos. Loser Leon dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. Coruna II will face higher ranked Estudiantes L. (#4) in Lugo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
