There was an upset when higher ranked Gran Canaria (9-7) lost on the road to tenth ranked UCAM Murcia (8-8) 84-78 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 30-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game. UCAM Murcia made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. It was a very good performance for British Ovie Soko (201-91, college: Duquesne) who helped to win the game recording 19 points (made all of his eight free throws). Brazilian Vitor Benite (194-90) contributed with 16 points for the winners. Four UCAM Murcia players scored in double figures. Israeli point guard Gal Mekel (190-88, college: Wichita St., agency: BeoBasket) replied with 16 points and Swedish swingman Marcus Eriksson (201-93) added 10 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Gran Canaria. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. UCAM Murcia moved-up to ninth place. Loser Gran Canaria keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. UCAM Murcia will face Joventut (#17) in Badalona in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gran Canaria will play on the road against Unicaja Malaga (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
